"TOOBS"

Introduction to "TOOBS"

Despite the quaint name these findings are useful additions to your beadwork as well as being decorative.

"Toobs" come in several styles:

BR1: 43mm (1-3/4") Brooch Pin

Pend1: 35mm (1-3/8") two loop Pendant Bar (Suitable for Bracelets and Necklaces as well as Pendants)

and two sizes in single loop Earring Bars:

Earbr1: 20mm (3/4")

Earbr2: 15mm (5/8")

The Earring findings have a single loop (can also be used for narrower bracelets and necklaces).

The findings are available in quality Gold or Silver Plating

All the above Toobs work in the same way and have a slit at the bottom with closing lugs either side. There is an underscore mark on each of the lugs making it easier to bend the lug a the right spot.

How to use the "TOOBS"

Using either size 11 Delica Beads or Size 15 Seed Beads, design and make a piece of beadwork to start as the width of the "Toob" finding.

It is better for the bead string to be slightly wider rather than narrower than the "Toob".

The top row of the beads will slide into the "Toob" (as shown on the diagram below) and because they will be hidden the colour used will not matter.

Cross section

Before sliding the beads into place bend down one of the lugs using either fine chain nose or round nose pliers.

If you have them, use the plastic sheathed pliers to protect the metal surface or try wrapping a small piece of cloth around the plier face.

Lever the lug fully into the closed position against a solid but flexible surface such as a plastic cutting board so as not to scratch the metal finding.

Insert the top row of beads into the "Toob" then close the remaining lug as above.

Attach a clasp or ear hook to the "Toob" ring/s using a Jump ring and if required other beadwork.
